The second factor is the fact that often, Emeralds reside in hard packed shale and calcite deposits, and often has to be mined using blasting methods, which further affects the clarity of the Emerald. Clarity enhancements range from heavy to minor oil treatments, which are acceptable to the trade and collectors. The lower the exposure to treatments, the higher the price, and collection value, however, most collectors accept the treatments, and focus on the beauty of the gem instead.
